Business Challenge

In China, the annual tradition of visiting graves during Tomb-Sweeping Day is a time-honored practice. However, it carries an unforeseen risk – the potential for forest fires, particularly in remote rural areas where awareness of forest fire prevention may be lacking. To mitigate this risk, the government is eager to deploy a Forest Fire Alarm System in mountainous regions. This system requires that all sensors and controllers in the field have internet connectivity to transmit data from remote mountains back to the central monitoring center.

Technical Requirements

The project introduces several crucial technical highlights:

  • Due to poor signal coverage in some rural areas, a dual SIM design is essential.
  • The router must feature a variety of interfaces, including RS232, RS485, and Ethernet ports, to facilitate seamless connectivity with smoke sensors and regular data transmission as per default settings.
  • Ensuring the router remains online is imperative to provide real-time information about potential forest fire locations and prevent forest fires.
  • The router should operate effectively under harsh environmental conditions, including extreme temperature variations, high humidity, and fog.

Solution

Orxcel’s industrial-grade O10 cellular solution was selected for this unique application due to its industrial design and superior performance. The router successfully passed all pilot tests in real forests, with the added challenge of dense morning fog.

Thanks to its Dual SIM design and multiple link management strategy, the router maintains an uninterrupted online presence. The performance of the router has been a source of satisfaction. The aim is to promote this solution to governments and contribute to the ambitious goal of eradicating forest fires in the future.

This is Orxcel’s commitment to making a difference and ensuring zero forest fires.
